Huge models on display in the World's Largest Dinosaur Exhibition
One of the museums permanent displays
WORLD'S LARGEST DINOSAURS
I was pleased to be able to visit "The World's Largest Dinosaur Exhibition" at the New York Natural History Museum at the beginning of November 2011.
The exhibition is fascinating, as it explores how the largest creatures ever to walk the planet walked, breathed, ate, & pumped blood to support their massively long necks and huge tails.
The exhibition uses the science of biomechanics to explain how these giants moved, treating the creatures as mechanical devices.
There are models showing how the creatures breathed, and a model of the huge heart they would need to pump blood through their bodies.
For example, what happened when they raised their heads? How did they prevent blood starvation to the brain (small as it was)?
Scientists use modern day examples, such as the giraffe to explain.
Other models demonstrate the massive amount of food these creatures needed on a daily basis. Staggering!
If you are visiting New York, don't miss this terrific exhibition.
In addition, their permanent display of dinosaurs, and other fossils is first rate.
Highly recommended
